Robber Fly with gnat prey - Holopogon
Spring Green Preserve SNA, Sauk County, Wisconsin, USA
May 31, 2008
Size: ~ 1/3 inch
Saw many of these flies this day on the open sandy oak barrens and into the hardwood forest. Found mostly on the ends of small brown stems close to ground.

I believe it to be Holopogon.
