Spiketail!
Look at the size of that ovipositor.
The small spots make me think this is a Twin-spotted Spiketail (Cordulegaster maculata).

 
This can be frustrating for a beginner . . .
Thanks for the quick reply! It's tough ID'ing something when you don't know where to start. I overlooked the Spiketail family and stumbled on a photo that seemed close in the Clubtail family.

 
The eyes actually touch (barely)
in the Spiketails, something they would not do in the Clubtails. That one point of contact makes them look like a written figure 8 from above (or the symbol for infinity if you're mathematically inclined!)
