from my pine bark container - Madoniella dislocata
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
Size: about 4.4 mm
I was surprised to see this little clerid running around in a sealed container full of pine bark in which I was trying to rear some rove larvae. I figure he (yes, it *is* a he) had burrowed into the cambium layer and pupated before I collected the bark. So while this species is said to favor certain hardwoods, it is not above checking out the smorgasboard beneath pine bark once in a while. Photographed May 29, 2008.
