why is this species so rare these days.
I have not seen this species in a long time. What echosystem do they really like. I used to catch this kind of wasp around a orange grove which was around a lake in the Orlando area when I was a kid. It seemed to me, that it liked Lantana and spanish needles plants.

Hey Bill
I am sorry but I, just a hobbist, can't give you an answer. I can mention that since these pictures were taken I haven't seen another.
Just out of curiosity, what would you catch these (or any wasp) for and what would you do with them? As a kid I was always apprehensive (read as scared) of them...

I always thought they were neat.
I think it loved this wasp for it's bright colors and I think it is beautiful. Also because I am legally blind I like insects that stand out more then others.
