black-red-black flea beetle - Disonycha xanthomelas

black-red-black flea beetle - Disonycha xanthomelas
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 22, 2005
Size: 5 mm or so
Jumped and flew at same time. Very good aim. Kept landing in my lens housing. Like Tom Murray's recent posting, this one has a red abdomen. However, I don't notice a blue sheen to it like Tom's.

Disonycha xantho*melas?
This appears to be a Disonycha. Using an online key, I get to D.triangularis or D.xanthomelas, and images on Cedar Creek gives support.
Though the head seems almost impunctate in this specimen, my choice would be the abovenamed species.

Xantholmelas has a red abdomen.
That cinches it for me. Thanks, Boris.
