Huge Moth - Hyalophora columbia

Huge Moth - Hyalophora columbia
Elizabeth, Elbert County, Colorado, USA
June 3, 2008
Size: 4 to 4 1/2"
Attracted to our porch light, this was found on our brick wall very early this morning...still flexing its wings as if it had just emerged from its cocoon. Can you direct me to a page where I can find what its cocoon would look like?

Hyalophora columbia gloveri
Again, this is a Glover's Silk moth Hyalophora columbia gloveri. The image you linked Ron, is also a Glover's Silkmoth as I said before. Both of these moths are from Colorado, where the nominate subspecies H. columbia columbia does not range.

Thanks for the ID
These are really beautiful moths, and we have seen them in past years here but never knew what they were. The BugGuide has answered a lot of our questions about our backyard visitors.
