These mites have spinnerets on the palps, not homologous to spider spinnerets, and spin webs. "Production of webbing serves a variety of functions, including protecting the eggs, locating members of the opposite sex, dispersal, and protecting populations against adverse environmental factors and natural enemies."(1)
