ants and aphids on an apple tree - Female
apple tree in lowell, Kent County, Michigan, USA

Size: 2-4mm aphid, ~1cm ant
These ants have started an aphid farm on my apple tree. I'm clueless with both groups, any experts have an ID to offer on both the ants and/or the aphids?

Formica fusca?
The ant is a Formica but I don't know the species.
