Here is a larval Ixodes scapularis tick collected from NE Iowa. This is a ventral view though the scutum is visible straight through its body. Note that larval ticks have only 6 legs rather than 8.

i dont know much about ticks eccept they are a pain here every spirng. i never knew that nymphs only had 6 legs. do they gain legs as they grow???
