Hypocaccus - Hypocaccus fraternus

Hypocaccus - Hypocaccus fraternus
Berrien County, Michigan, USA
September 22, 2007
Size: ~ 3 mm
A Hypocaccus. Collected on beach along Lake Michigan. I've tried to key it out and it seemed to be H. fraternus, but doesn't seem to match Jeff's image of that species.

Sutural stria present but doesn't quite reach apex of elytra.

Moved from Hypocaccus.

Thanks Jeff. Your Hister images have been immensely helpful as I ID the histerids in my collection.

H. fraternus
I would feel safe moving this to H. fraternus. This species varies in the extent of punctation on its dorsal surface. The specimen that I posted is not typical. I will be posting pics of an additional, more typical, specimen in the future.

In Wisconsin, this is probably the most common histerid on beaches of lakes including Lake Michigan.
