It was a warm, humid and overcast day with occasional rain -- perfect bug weather. This is one of those insects that's fun to find.

A member of the Rhyssini tribe. Braconid Wasps never get that large, at least in temperate climates.

 
Richard, that's good to know.
Any other tips on telling the two apart? (I think braconids are cuter, but that's hard to quantify!)
