Lady Beetle larva - Propylea quatuordecimpunctata

Lady Beetle larva - Propylea quatuordecimpunctata

Almost certainly P. quatuordecimpunctata
This limited view shows characteristics of the 14-spotted lady beetle I reared from egg to adult. It is black and white, with no orange or red; the black head has a triangular white "face"; and the pattern on the thorax and visible abdominal segments is very distinctive.

The pattern is an exact match for P. quatuordecimpunctata, and I don't know of any other East Coast species with a black-and-white larva, but on the other hand, I don't know that there isn't such a species. So I'm sticking with "almost certainly."

Moved from Ladybird Beetles.

Possibly Propylea quatuordecimpunctata, although without more of a dorsal view we may never know.
