Beetle to be ID'd - Dorcus parallelus - female

Beetle to be ID'd - Dorcus parallelus - Female
Gatineau region, Quebec, Canada
May 29, 2005
Size: about 2 cm
I found this beetle last night, resting in a parking lot under a bright light.I'm wondering what it is. I think it might be a female stag beetle or some other wood-boring beetle. Any ideas on the family/genus/species would be helpful.

New genus for Guide - Dorcus
Yep, this is a Lucanid, genus Dorcus - there are only two spp. in NA: Dorcus brevis (Say 1825) and D. parallelus (Say 1823) and only D. parallelus is listed from Canada. Your photo is probably a female, the males generally have larger, but only slightly, heads and mandibles - see here.

Thanks!
I did a bit of research, and this is definately D. parallelus, based on the ridges on the elytra (see figure 1 in http://digital.library.okstate.edu/OAS/oas_pdf/v67/p27_29.pdf.
