Springtail eating yeast pellet - Willowsia buski

Springtail eating yeast pellet - Willowsia buski
Roseville, Placer County, California, USA
June 8, 2008
Size: 2 mm
I'm fairly sure this is Willowsia buski. I have hundreds of them under a storage chest on my patio and I'm going to try and culture them again...

Willowsia buski
Indeed, Domingo. Usually with purplish body, yellowish head.
This is one of those typical domestic springtails that are found in house wherever and whenever there is some water leakage... Preferably in bathrooms or kitchens where there is a warm and damp microclimat.
I have had a small colony of these springtails in my own kitchen underneat the sink where there was a small water leak... This was a nice opportunity to study them for a while in their 'natural habitat'. ;-)
