Fania nana - MONA 2691? - Fania nanus - Male
8 mi. SW of Wimberley, Comal County, Texas, USA
June 9, 2008
Size: 30mm wingspan
At incandescent light. HW is tan and abdomen is ringed. This Cossid looks for all the world like an Arizona image here. It's not on any TX checklist I have and there is no Hodges number for it at MPG. There is an internet reference to a record in Payne Co., OK. In central Texas, we've had over a week of constant gusting south winds. Along with an early drought, odd Cossids and underwings are about all that I'm seeing at lights.

Nana vs. nanus
I just finished consulting with Bob Patterson at MPG and apparently "nanus" is the preferred species name to "nana".

Moved from Moths.

Ron, I noticed that this specimen's identity had been confirmed at MPG and I have created a new page for it here. Thanks for submitting. We now have both species represented for this genus!
