cat-generalist - Haploa confusa

cat-generalist - Haploa confusa
Rensselaerville, Albany County, New York, USA
June 9, 2008
Size: 3.5 cm
I found this caterpillar on several mostly non-native herbaceous plant species (coltsfoot, stinging nettle, spotted Joe-pye-weed and hemp-nettle) that were all growing on the gravely stream bench in the decidous mixed forest.

This is one of the Haploa
but they're a confusing bunch. We always struggle with lecontei and confusa. We would suggest H confusa here, but won't be surprised if we're contradicted by someone. They're all "confusa" to us! :)
