Thank you for the accurate ID, around here we always called these things golden rod beetles.

 
We have always used the term Goldenrod beetle for the
Pennsylvania Leatherwing which is active in the fall. If you click on the DATA tab for the Margined you'll see that it's active primarily May, June and July. While if you look instead at Chauliognathus pennsylvanicus, you'll see that it's active in August, Sept and October -- when Goldenrod blooms!
