Beetle and pupa - Chilocorus circumdatus

Beetle and pupa - Chilocorus circumdatus
Apopka, Orange County, Florida, USA
June 13, 2008
I am wandering if this may be Cycloneda munda, but I also notice the dark coloring near the bottom. I have been watching these for a few days from the first post of the pupa. They finally started to come alive!!

note the tortoise-shell-like form of the body.

To properly ID a ladybug...
usually requires a look at the markings on the pronotum (the area behind the head and in front of the wings). A couple of the images seem to show a bit of the pronotum, but perhaps the markings won't be visible until the exoskeleton has had a chance to "set" after the molt.
