Pasimachus strenuus
per Mike Thomas does indeed appear to be the best choice for this very large & robust (wide) Pasimachus with smooth elytra. Be aware that "Pterostichus strenuus" is another carabid species that occurs in the northeast & northwest. Two inches (50 mm) is probably an over-estimate as 35 mm is the reported upper range for this guy. See Key to Pasimachus of Florida toward end of document along with images. Nice find!
