Gathering - Megarhyssa macrurus - Female
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
June 11, 2008
A good sized Ironwood had been blown over by the wind and had attracted a group of Ichneumons.

Very cool.
Nice shot!
I was lucky enough to find a dead tree with loose bark. I pulled the bark off and saw the long ovipostors stinking out of the tree and did't know what they were.
I went back about an hour later and found 3 Megarhyssa macrurus females on the tree.
