Soldier Fly - Female
Lacey (near Olympia), Thurston County, Washington, USA

Microchrysa sp.
This is a species of Microchrysa, probably M. polita

Maybe

soldier fly
Well, it looks like it's definitely the right genus, and probably the right species. Should we wait to see if Martin or Gerard will chime in, or do you think I should move it to genus level at least?

I'm happy to wait. Thanks for at least giving me the right type of fly to look into!! And I *do* think you nailed it (at least to genus, if not better).
