This guy was found on the the Mules ears leaves . It bit my husband when he caught one in flight , after he tapped it to see if it would click . It looks like a Click beetle , but it would not click for us , but seemed hungry... hence the bite . Thanks for any comments to further our buggie knowledge , sincerely Beth

it is a Selatosomus sp. (formerly - and some in the guide still are - treated within Ctenicera).

 
Selatosomus crusciatus has a
Selatosomus crusciatus has a melanic form in the area where this was collected. I am assuming that is what this is. I don't know of any other species from the area with the pronotal disc red with the black median stripe.

Click beetle indeed, though it might be masquerading as a firefly with that pattern on the pronotum (dorsal surface of thorax).
