Yes, its quite common in the desert southwest USA (NV, AZ). That is the "black-backed desert hairy" scorpion (Hadrurus spadix). That is also the largest scorpion in North America, obtaining lengths of 5" from chelicerae to telson. Great scorps! I have one as a pet.
