Gray Fishfly - Neohermes angusticollis - male

Gray Fishfly - Neohermes angusticollis - Male
Hwy 55 and Sedwick, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
May 29, 2005
Size: 34 mm
Found at a lighted wall. Captured and posed. Length was measured as 34 mm (head to tip of folded wings) and approximately 25 mm (head to tip of abdomen). Hairy antennae and structure of abdomen indicate this is a male.

This is presumably Neohermes angusticollis, the only species on regional checklists and museum listings, but I do not have access to a key for this genus.

Moved
Moved from Gray Fishflies.

Just found one of these at my lamp
I knew it was different than the Chauliodes I usually see because of the length of the antennae. I saw the same pinkish fluid exuded when I picked it up for some shots of the genitalia.

A bunch here on 6/15
I had about 10 or 12 around the lights at my favorite over-lit pharmacy early Wednesday morning, 6/15/05. This seems to be the flight season--mid-June.
