Fly - male

Fly - Male
Sitka County, Alaska, USA
June 11, 2008
I don't remember how big this was, but I don't think it was very large. Certainly less than an inch long, and probably closer to between 1 and 2 cm.

It was walking around on the moss and sort of stroking its abdomen with its hind legs. I couldn't figure out if it was trying to lay eggs, but if it was, they were smaller than I could see.

Probably Bibio
This is probably a Bibio.

Moved
Moved from Flies.

Not an ID
but I think this may be a male March Fly (Bibionidae) - please wait for an expert to confirm, though... take a look at this example and the other images in BG while you're waiting!
