Cricket or Katydid or ? - Cyphoderris - male

Cricket or Katydid or ? - Cyphoderris - Male
Oak Creek Wildlife Area, Yakima County, Washington, USA
June 7, 2008
Size: About two inches long
Made a noise like a cricket, but was much larger than any cricket we have ever seen. Just would like to know what it is.

can't see subgenital plate,
it's hidden behind the leg (and needed to be sure of I.D.); however, some of it is visible, and seems to fit with C. monstrosus best. From this county it could perhaps be C. buckelli, or much more likely C. monstrosus.

Cool!
Very nice image of a male "hump-winged grig" in the genus Cyphoderris. Females are essentially wingless. They are unique and in their own family related to crickets and katydids.

Hump-winged Grig ID
Thanks for the quick identification. Will be keeping a lookout for more interesting bugs and will try to get better photos.
