Ah thank you. The Kaufman information was limited. Is there a way to decide approximately what species the insect belongs to? I was not in a position to collect the bee and inspect it at all. Nor would i know a great deal about anatomical differences between bees. I have been looking at Ross Arnett's book on 'American Insects' to find out rather more. I was interested because I had not seen a bee coloured in this way before. The Arnett book did not give information about such a colour combination.
Thank you for your help.

Bombus (Pyrobombus) sp., maybe huntii; not ternarius
it is not possible to ID bees to species using the Kaufman guide!
