Size: 3/4 inch
I photographed this in Chillicothe, IL. I have never seen a red bug like this. Could someone help me idenitfy this?

Rhinocoris ventralis (Rhynocoris ventralis) an assassin bug

Reduviidae.
I agree with the family identification, but this is a freshly-molted individual, so the 'real' color has not yet expressed itself. Pigments will darken and the insect is likely going to be more black than red eventually. I would lean toward Apiomerus crassipes myself....Rhynocoris is not quite so robust an insect.
