Dragonfly - Libellula

Dragonfly - Libellula
Harrison Lake National Fish Hatchery, Charles City County, Virginia, USA
June 19, 2008
Size: 45mm long
Another Dragonfly hanging around the old field at Harrison Lake in the late morning. Not sure what this one is, though I suspect it's a female.

Moved
Moved from Dragonflies.

The side of the thorax looks yellow
in this image. If that is true, then we suggest Libellula flavida, see
, but yours doesn't seem to have enough black on the wingtips. If it is white, then Needham's is a possibility, but we would expect to see more light color forward on the thorax, see
. It will be interesting to see what others propose.

flavida?
In another (lower quality) picture I took, this female pretty clearly has yellow sides.
