Flower fly - Toxomerus marginatus - female

Flower fly - Toxomerus marginatus - Female
Burlington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
June 19, 2008
Size: 5mm
It looked a bit more colorful in real life.

Could be Toxomerus geminatus

Unless it's just that I have it on the brain (I was literally just looking at that guide page when you posted).

Actually, I think T. marginatus is a better fit.

The interesting thing is the wing veins of the upper image seem to match yours exactly - I didn't know that the veins of different species could be such a good match.

Right the second time.
T. marginatus, female
