This shell was found up the mountain attached to a Mullen plant , it is amazing how fresh it looks and how much detail there is left ... I believe it is a Cicadae pupal shell ... please correct me if I am wrong , thanks for any input , Beth

Cicada nymph skin
Yes, this is the shed skin of an immature cicada (not a pupal shell, since cicadas don't pupate). I just went to see the 17-year cicadas that have emerged on Cape Cod this week. Every tree and plant has several of these skins on it--pretty amazing!
