Bee Mimic Fly - Paravilla montivaga

Bee Mimic Fly - Paravilla montivaga
San Bernardino National Forest, ~7000 feet, San Bernardino County, California, USA
June 21, 2008
Size: large bee
Found this one on a path through a meadow around 10:00 A.M. It was slowly moving around on the path, but did not fly, and appeared dazed or somehow incapacitated.

Moved
Moved from Paravilla.

Moved
Moved to genus - are you confident enough to place this on a species page, Andy?

Moved from Flies.

ID
I am not positive, but that is the most likely assignment. Put it at 80-90%. To really make a certain call, we might have to dissect it. I think it makes sense to place it there with these notes to convey some doubt.

ID
This is Paravilla. I would sort tentatively to P. montivaga, based on size, look, and locale. If so, it's a first for the guide.
