Small jumping spider - Zygoballus rufipes

Small jumping spider - Zygoballus rufipes
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
June 18, 2008
Size: ~4mm
We're not certain from this angle but it looks to us like Zygoballus rufipes. is that correct? is it a male?

I believe
you are correct.

The only Ziggy I haven't seen or photographed yet is the male nervosus, which, according to Kaston, appears similar to rufipes for both male and female respectively.

As you know, the descriptions are based on appearances in alcohol.

I suspect one of the notable difference between the two will be in the legs, which is an easy way to distinguish the females. Abdomen markings often aren't very reliable in the males since scale loss seems so common.
