Azures or some other type of blue? - Celastrina neglecta

Azures or some other type of blue? - Celastrina neglecta
Pike National Forest, El Paso County, Colorado, USA
June 23, 2008
Size: 13mm
Lots of these along the trail today. Markings on all appeared the same - no orange spots.

Nice collection
Good to see another Springs resident out insect hunting. Have fun!

maybe this.....
To me, it looks like:
Summer Azure (Celastrina ladon)
But I certainly could be wrong.

There are a lot of images in the image tab of Celastrina.
Check them out here.

Summer or ladon?
The taxonomy on the azure page lists the Summer Azure as neglecta, not ladon. It looks like both are eastern species, although maybe they just haven't been reported out here on bugguide. Personally, I thought it most closely matched the images of the Late Spring Azure (Celastrina serotina), especially the top coloring, but that also looks like an eastern species. As far as the time of year - at over 8500 feet elevation, it is still late spring, not really summer. Thanks for your help!

Summer Azure seconded
I'd agree that Summer Azure is the most likely candidate, especially at that date.

I think so too now
After researching butterflies found in Colorado a little more. It appears that the Summer Azure (Celastrina neglecta) is one of three species of azure found in Colorado and I agree that is the best match. Thanks again.
