Everes amyntula -- Western Tailed-blue - Cupido amyntula - Rancho Palos Verdes, Forrestal Nature Preserve, Los Angeles County, California, USA May 17, 2005
For nearly 20 years, this species had been missing from our local fauna until a year ago, when a single individual was found a few miles from the present site. This photo is of one of a small breeding population now in residence. The larval host plant is Astragalus leucopsis var. trichopodus, which was also host to the federally endangered Palos Verdes blue butterfly, not seen on this spot since 1982.
