Lycosidae? - Tegenaria domestica - female

Lycosidae? - Tegenaria domestica - Female
48.16354N 53.96675W (WGS84), Clarenville, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland/Labrador, Canada
June 23, 2008
Size: 9 mm Body Length
I'm guessing that this is a female Lycosidae but I can't go beyond that. It looks a bit hairier than other Wolf Spiders that I've seen. I fell badly that I injured it during the photo session. I prefer to photograph 'bugs' in their natural environment because they seem to stay still longer. A lot of my friends and relatives have started to capture 'bugs' and give them to me to photograph. That was the case with this spider. When I dropped it out of the container that it had been in onto a table, the spider made a mad rush to get away. I put a lid over it to prevent an escape and accidentally torn off a leg in the process. A bubble of liquid can be seen at the fresh amputation site. I'm amazed at how fragile spiders and insects are. They can be injured very easily.

I have recieved a positive ID for this spider from Dr. Roger Pickavance.  Based on Dr. Pickavance's microscopic examination of the specimen that I collected after I photographed it, Dr. Pickavance identified this as: "Tegenaria domestica adult female (a common household spider) "

Moving to family page for now...

Not a Lycosid
Those eyes are not indicative of a Wolf Spider.

This appears to be Tegenaria, one of the funnel-web spiders.
