Numbers
the second largest thrips family, and the largest among Terebrantia, with >260 spp. in 50 genera in our area(1) and >2000 spp. in ~230 genera worldwide, arranged into 4 subfamilies (Thripinae containing ~80% of spp.)(2)
Range
worldwide; the majority of species occur in the tropics and warm temperate areas, but a few are known from the subarctic (Greenland) and the subantarctic(2)
