June beetle? - Cotinis nitida

June beetle? - Cotinis nitida
Perry County, Pennsylvania, USA
June 28, 2008
Size: 1/2 In
is this a June beetle? they come out everyyear in my yard and hang around the compost pile. they are very powerful flyers and it was hard to net this one.

oh and by the way they are fairly large, for a beetle.

Moved
Moved from Cotinis mutabilis.

Right species?
I'm thinking Cotinis nitida. Not sure that mutabilis makes it that far north, though I could be wrong....

ooppss
I don't know how this happened...I must have accidently moved it to the wrong place. Thanks for catching my mistake! i will move it to cotinis nitida
