Male Pterotus obscuripennis.
Neat find! Females of this lampyrid are larviform.

Thanks Eric. I found an image of Dendroides cyanipennis in Kaufman/Eaton that I thought would clinch the ID; glad you came in.

likely not Western Zarhipis
If you compare with the images in the guide entry you'll notice that the antenna are different and that the abdomen is lacking the dark band.


Reminds me of a solider beetle (canthraidae) but the antennae are wrong.
