leaf beetle
This is Lema trabeata and is found from peninsular Florida over to Arizona and thence down to Columbia. Host plants are mostly ground cherries (Physalis) and Datura. Very nice photo as the orange markings fade to a dull orange-brown upon death. The light elytral markings on an otherwise black insect are distinctive for this species.
