dapper soldier beetle - Rhagonycha excavata

dapper soldier beetle - Rhagonycha excavata
Hudson, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
June 28, 2008
Size: about 8.3 mm
Terrible whole-body shot but at least it provides size determination. Taken by sweep net on gray, misty day.

Might be,
but I find neither the genus nor the species name on Don Chandler's checklist for New Hampshire.

the HN list...
...plays old school with soldiers and has all Rhagonyha spp. under Cantharis

OK,
I thought there might be some synonymism in play. If you're correct, this should be another state record, and I should still have the specimen :-)

synonymism is a possibility of course
it's hard to imagine a NH state record in this fam., i'll try to check but Don may be able to tell offhand where in the list it belongs
