Tom's nightmare - Araneus bicentenarius - female

Tom's nightmare - Araneus bicentenarius - Female
Johns Island, Charleston County, South Carolina, USA
June 30, 2008
Size: close to an inch
Size estimated not including legs or jaws. Beautiful, very large. Web had been broken by us walking through it. Appeared that a signal line extended into a clump of spanish moss. A beautiful green with red on its legs.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.

We would suggest
Araneus bicentenarius - Giant Lichen Orbweaver, in the guide here. Beautiful!
