Cicada killer? - Sphecius convallis Cicada killer? - Sphecius convallis

Chuck Holliday confirms
"Your other two Picture Rocks pix are correctly identified as Sphecius
convallis.

It looks like it may be S. grandis or S. convallis?

Yes
one of those, but which one? I know ours here are brown.

S. convallis.
This is the specimen I meant was certainly Sphecius convallis:-)

Brown Sphecius speciosus - I doubt it
is what I should have said above. Do they all have the same common name? I answered my own question. See this site.

Pacific Cicada Killer, Sphecius convallis (Patton)
Eastern Cicada Killer, Sphecius speciosus (Drury)
Western Cicada Killer, Sphecius grandis (Say)

Ok
I was wondering what you meant - and no, I didn't expect it to be an Eastern CK.
