Yellow cranefly - Nephrotoma occipitalis

Yellow cranefly - Nephrotoma occipitalis
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
July 1, 2008
Size: 12 mm approx
Found other similar images in Nephrotoma. I was inclined towards N. virescens (below left) but now I'm thinking maybe N. alterna (below right) is a better match? Will wait for Chen's opinion on species.

This one is a male
of Nephrotoma occipitalis . It does not have the dark tip on the wing tips as Nephrotoma alterna. It looks like Nephrotoma virescens except it has a dark triangular mark between the eys, which is lacking in Nephrotoma virescens. Stephen Luk took a female image of this species earlier and I misidentified it as a Nephrotoma virescens. - Chen
