hooked protibia - Hydrocanthus

hooked protibia - Hydrocanthus
Medford, (~25 miles east of Philadelphia, PA) Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
June 29, 2008
Size: ~5mm
of course the night after I tell Jim that I haven't seen many of this family, I get 3 in my UV trap (to only one Dytiscidae Celina). This image added to show a little better the strong hook on the apex of the protibia (seen best on image left / beetle's right protibia)

and a new species for me, probably H. iricolor
