Size: ~10mm
Saw this guy hanging out around the Toyon bushes & on the ground by our house, when I photographed him, I thought I was photographing another one of these , but when I looked at the photos, they are different.

Tachysphex?
Most likely a male Tachysphex, but not positive. Genera are determined in large part by the shape of the ocellar scars (ocelli are rudimentary if not entirely absent, but there are 'scars' where they used to be). I can't make that out in these images, obviously:-)
