The first wasp I have seen with mandibles(?) like this. Looks to be a Prionyx, Possibly atratus ? Am I on the right track?

Actually...
it reminds me more of Isodontia, but you'll want to compare images in the guide or wait for someone with more expertise in Sphecids.

I see what you mean, Nick. I tried comparing photos of the Isodonitia but couldn't decide. Mexicana appears to be good candidate.
