Robber Fly - Holopogon oriens

Robber Fly - Holopogon oriens
Barneveld Prairie SNA, Iowa County, Wisconsin, USA
June 28, 2008
Size: ~ 1/3 inch
Relatively abundant this day on the ends of small brown stems on chest high plants, prairie.

I believe it to be Holopogon.

Moved
Moved from Holopogon.

As well as I can see the
hind tibia it seems not to get broader and broader but even to taper a little, so that it is not broader than the hind femur at the apex, suggesting that this is Holopogon oriens.
