My new temporary pet. - Dynastes tityus - Male
Springfield County, Virginia, USA

Found this guy, while walking around my workplace. There is a forested area nearby, he must of came from there. Currently, I plan on keeping him for a week or so, then setting him free at the national park not far from my house. Sometimes he smells, like wet grass. It can be very potent, I think this must be a defense mechanism.

In the picture he has been working on a piece of cantaloupe. Earlier that day he sucked haft of a strawberry dry. Should I continue to feed him fruit?

Yes.
These beetles actually don't feed much as adults, and don't live terribly long in the "wild." They do like all things fermented, though, so overripe fruits are more appealing to them:-) I think I'll go have a beer now....
