Dumpy hopper - Acanalonia

Dumpy hopper - Acanalonia
Cass County, Texas, USA
July 4, 2008
Size: 1/8"
A rather odd shaped hopper I cannot ID. It was on a Western Red Cedar branch.

Looks like an Acanalonia nymph
Several possibilities are pictured on the Info page here, and you may have other choices in Texas. It has the smoother look and maybe even the greenish color of A. conica, but Dr Hamilton should be able to tell you.

Thank you
once again for your invaluable and much appreciated info and IDs. Insect nymphs are amazingly different from the adults, lol. I would be at at almost total standstill on IDs if not for the kind input of the people like you, here at BugGuide.
